Why Bareboat in the Sea of Cortez?

Bareboat sailing here is more than just a vacation — it’s a personal journey through one of the richest marine ecosystems on Earth. The calm turquoise waters, abundant wildlife, warm sunshine, and dramatic desert landscapes create an unforgettable backdrop for your adventure.

Bareboat sailing puts you in control. Whether you’re an experienced sailor or eager to gain hands-on experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking marine environments, this option lets you craft your own itinerary. Cruise at your pace, anchor in secluded coves, snorkel vibrant reefs, and enjoy quiet evenings under the stars — all without the constraints of guided trips.

Whether you’re seeking peaceful solitude on a deserted beach or exhilarating sails across open water, this part of Mexico invites you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and chart your own course into 2026.

When to Sail

The early December period in the Sea of Cortez offers comfortable sailing conditions ideal for bareboat adventures. Expect daytime temperatures in the low to mid-20s °C (mid-70s °F), with evenings cooling pleasantly. Winds are generally gentle to moderate — morning light airs build into steady sea breezes of 8–18 knots in the afternoons — perfect for smooth, enjoyable sailing and easy navigation amongst islands like Espiritu Santo and Partida.

This season also offers exceptional wildlife sightings: migrating humpback whales with calves, playful sea lions, pods of dolphins, and colorful reef fish during snorkels. The Sea of Cortez’s extraordinary biodiversity provides unforgettable encounters for sailors who love nature.

Suggested Itinerary Ideas

We use the Sea of Cortez for its sheltered anchorages, clear snorkeling sites and variable sailing conditions ideal for cruising: Ensenada Grande, Balandra, Caleta Partida, El Candelero, Los Islotes and select northern anchorages like San Francisquito, San José and Los Gatos when weather permits.

Since this is a bareboat charter, you have full freedom to tailor your journey and adjust the route daily depending on weather conditions and your preferences.. Here are some ideas to inspire your trip:

  • Day 1 (Nov 30): Check‑in from 17:00 at Costa Baja Marina, La Paz. Briefing and yacht handover.
  • Days 2–11: Explore the Sea of Cortez at your own pace. Popular destinations include Espíritu Santo Archipelago, San José Island, San Evaristo, Puerto Los Gatos, and Agua Verde. Anchor in protected bays for snorkeling, coastal hikes, and wildlife watching.
  • Day 12 (Dec 11): Return to Costa Baja Marina. Yacht check‑out before 10:00. We suggest you arrive at the fuel dock around 08:30 to avoid delays.
